Is there an app that can send an automatic reply to upgrade notifications?

Something like "Are you fuck'n joking!"

Has Google Play caught up with iTunes in terms of app and music selection?

Nope. It's pretty close, but iOS is a favorable platform for software developers to work on, so you tend to see some apps/games on iOS exclusively, or they end up on Android much later on. When you look at average family income vs mobile OS choice, catering to iOS is far more lucrative for the devs too.

Apparently the same guy was in charge of iOS 8.0.1 quality assurance as the initial Apple Maps release. Guessing someone is going to get fired :)

Hey guys, just a heads up that iOS 8.0.2 is out with a bunch of bug fixes (including a fix for the Safari issue with uploading files to websites).

I have a brand new 5S with 7.whatever and am toying with the idea of updating to iOS8, but that bug really screwed up a lot of phones owned by a lot of people I know and they were FREAKING out! So I may hang back a little while.

My thing with Apple is I despise iTunes. I have accidentally erased part or all of my phone on more than one occasion. It's the most confusing and stupid interface one can imagine. My buddy who worked at Apple loves it, but admits each and every day someone would come in crying that their phone had been accidentally erased. Why can they not fix this?

That being said... With the iCloud backup I am no longer using iTunes. It's just not worth the risk of erasing my phone.

Yeah, luckily there's no reason to use iTunes to manage your phone. It's a bloated piece of frustrating software, though I've never heard of it erasing phones, especially when there's iCloud backups and optional local backups for everything. Luckily, it's hard to lose your data these days.

Now that iOS 8.0.2 is out, it's fairly safe to update. We have a 4s, 5s, and two iPads here running it without any issue so far.

Unfortunately, if you have a mere mortal 16GB iPhone, it is likely that you won't have enough room to house the entire software suite needed to set up the relatively tiny iOS files. I'm now downloading the 8.0.2 upgrade as I type this. I'm sure it will be fine, but I 100% agree regarding the bloat called iTunes.

It seems that Apple gets more and more like Microsoft every day.

Yeah, it was surprising how much available space is required to perform the actual update. That'll slow down the spread of iOS8 unless they've improved the update process with these later builds.

A bad run lately, but I think they're a loooong way from going full-Microsoft ;)
