I don't own any vintage longines at the present time, but I have always admired them. Found this watch that I have never seen before. I would like to know if this is a real deal, as far as originality of the dial, hands, etc... Also, if the forum rules permit, please comment on the price. thank you http://www.ebay.com/itm/371103354275?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:ITPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Yes, it's the real deal - just not a very sought after model. First off, it has a replacement crown. Second, it's a caliber 50x which is a rebadged Record 195x. Now, Longines did acquire Record in 1961 and this watch is a late 60's / early 70's piece so technically it's a Longines caliber but it's not a true 100% in-house movement so it's not as sought after. I think the price is several hundred too high, especially given that gold is down a bit. 18k cases are Swiss made so that helps compared to the value of a US made 14k case. It's basically a $1000 watch IMO.
Ok. I appreciate your reply. Thank you. I keep learning about Longines and Omegas bit by bit by reading thisforum. Are there some websites or blogs you can recomment about vintage Longines and Omegas?
There's information about Omega everywhere - books, the internet, etc. Not so much for Longines though.
