    I guess it depends on what condition the watch was in before the service. If it was already wrecked and not running, then perhaps the $2,200 cost of service was money well spent.

    There's really no way to know.

    I Really like these but original dialled ones tend to make good money. That's what interested me in this one. The trouble is how to value it with the dial as it is.

    There's one up for auction at Watches of Knightsbridge tomorrow - see how that goes and make an adjustment for the redial. At least it was an STS redial...

    £4200+22%=£5,124.

    It was in excellent condition. The case and dial were really sharp.

    So non original dial = £3000 price reduction.

    The usual assumption is that dial is 40% of the value. As the redial is not worth zero I suppose you're looking at a 20-30% ish reduction.

    But I'm not sure how much you can read into one auction result on these. Ultimately the value is what you're prepared to pay & whether you're interested in a redial at all.

    I saw this watch being done at STS, it is a cracking job and there was a lot of work went in to the restoration to get it right, the redial is very nice (IMHO)
