So I pulled the trigger on this one today. Given it a clean. Put it on leather Omega deployment for now as the bracelet is too small. So what next? Seems to be keeping good time. Clearly needs a new crystal and tachymetre but I think the case is pretty good. 31mill serial number so I guess 1969 which is great. Dial seems ok. What about the hands? Is the minute register orange and hour more faded? What would fellow forum members do? This is a keeper and a regular wearer. Ideally.

And is this the original bracelet and end links? I don't see why not.
I seem to be buying a lot of Speedies right now!

    I think the mk2 came with 1162/173. Maybe 1171 too, but I'm not 100%.

Hour sub register hand does look more faded than the other chrono hands. Doesn't detract to me though. I don't know if that would happen naturally.

Nice lookin' watch though. I like mine quite a bit!

Yes I like a bit of character! Yours is stunning. I just checked and mine has 1162/173 so looks like original set. Just missing a few links for me. Actually I think it looks fab on the leather but I know I am in the minority on that one.

    I like it.
The orange hands on these can vary massively between different watches. I'm like you and can enjoy 'character'. Though I'd be more than happy with one like Oddboy's too.

I reckon a new crystal will make a huge difference on yours.

Any reason you went for the Mk II over the Mk III's?

I think with a movement service and a new crystal it will be a great watch. The small hour register hand I would try and source a second hand one to match the yellow of the other hands.

The bracelet spare links can be bought new so not a problem to get those

Nice looking watch Envy you . The left pusher looks a little strange . You could see the spline . Either the screw is about to loose . Or it's worn out ?

Yes that pusher is wrong. Service due clearly on everything. Keeping great time overnight which is encouraging. Fellow forum member assisting me with some spare parts which is wonderful.

Just a note on the spare links, I believe that the 1162 replacement bracelet is just a wee bit different than the vintage one. I picked up a cheapy 1162 on ebay a while back and it was very short. Took it to the Omega repair shop but they said the new links wouldn't fit. They offered me a new one for $350 CAD.

1162 bct do come up for sale now and then. The one I sniped (and have since let go - sorry!) was had for $60 on the bay.

I think Omega produced a lot of variations of the 1162 bracelet in the past. When it comes to the vintage removable links, they were often still part of the bracelet that was reducing in size as they got closer to the clasp, the same applied to 1159's etc

I have a whole heap of different sizes of links for the 1162 and 1171. The new 1162 are much more uniform in their size for the spare links because the spare links are all the same size.

Can you take some photos of the bracelet end where you need the extra links and also measure the width of the links? That should give a better idea of the type of spare links you need.

Just checked the 1162's I have. The newer ones are 16mm with push in pins - these are the spare links that Omega still sell. The older 1162 (I only have one from a flightmaster but the design should be the same) these are about 15.6mm with screw in pins - these are difficult to find

I think it's just the decimal bezel, used for counting things per unit of time... like number of widgets rolling off the assembly line per minute. They are available, just don't see them on an actual watch very often.

Omega still sells them. They come up on ebay now and then. On the mk2, the bezel is a sticker-like film on the crystal, so you have to replace the crystal to get it. Not super expensive last I checked... I believe the crystal/bezel is included in an omega 'overhaul', but that may not be the way to go, depending on your desired outcome.

Can't wait for the reveal! Another alternative you might consider is a red bezel. There's a couple on ebay now. Might look nice on the racing dial

Edit: though red bezel wouldn't have come from factory other than on the gold ones.
