Here is what 587 Fifth Avenue looked like a few years ago. H & M has taken over the corner and is putting in a shop. Tried finding an old NY photo but to no avail.
There are only 2 known examples of this piece. If your friend has a third and is offering it for sale, I'd run, not walk, at almost any price.
I just bought one of those, film compax, beautiful case, perfect working condition, original dial about 70% condition, everything clear, just some dark/aged areas down around 6. Any offers?
The dial is a tragedy, made more poignant by its beautiful condition between 10 and 2. I think the market (and offers) for this one will be small.
Dial is very reminiscent of those of watches coming out of India and Southeast Asia, very high humidity areas. Wayne
Here's an interesting little snippet from a mid-1950s UG brochure I just stumbled across. It doesn't mention the Film Compax by name.
I am just a HUGE aviation person myself with most of my collecting revolving around it. However, I would not hesitate to purchase a Film Compax if one passed my way. Just a fascinating piece, unique which is always a plus. Wayne
Bumping this awesome thread ...with a new example? Who's keeping the database on these? https://mentawatches.com/product/universal-geneve-film-compax/
as a filmmaker I would love to have a Film Compax, Ive been searching for years...but at $78,500 not gonna happen. Maybe I'll get lucky one day and find one in a garage sale.
Not new. We saw this one in May 2016 at Phillips, where it sold for CHF68750 https://www.phillips.com/detail/UNIVERSAL/CH080016/46
