I'm not thinking of buying but this looked so much like a re-dial to me until I checked the script alignment - so did they ever make Connies with a dial like this?

    Thanks

This Constellation is correct. It's uncommon to have white gold dial furniture, original black dial, I would say this is a 168.005 case reference.

Here's one of mine (2852) with original black dial:

I think the O.P. watch should have silver script like Alex's watch.

I think the script is a little too bold (thick) and it should be silver, personally I'd stay away but that's just me.

Looking at my Constellations up close along with others I've seen, this watches script is not delicate enough and seems off a little. If it is a redial it is one of the better ones...but along with the white and boldness it would keep me away. Just my two cents.

The problem is that the silver gilt script does not photograph well and looks white and/or bold. The OP posted watch is good.

    Here is one of mine

Thanks for showing that. Having never seen a silver gilt dial up close, wasn't sure if it was good or not.

The opposite is true as well - sometimes light rose gold print on a black dial can look silver or white depending on the angle the light hits the dial.

I underbid the watch in the OP by about $50 a few weeks ago. It came with original bracelet, all the papers including guarantee, certificate and receipt from 1968. Now it's just come back on eBay for 3 times more in BIN price, just with an added generic leather band..:(

A week later, I won for a friend a 168.010 that looks just like Steve's watch, except in gold capped and gold scripts. The black piepan dial in this watch is slightly bigger than one in ref. 168.005 but looks way better than the already marvelous silver version. Really unbelievable and unimaginable just by looking at online pictures - these should be seen in the metal to believe!

Yep, I bid on the OP watch myself. Even talked to the seller a couple of times. He was selling his father's watch and hoping to find a good home for his dad's prized possession. I didn't have the funds to compete at the time. Kind of makes you sad to see it being flipped for a 250% return a couple weeks later but that's life. I just hope he doesn't see it.
