No you don't, that's the point. You can fit the tropic crystal, have the cyclops removed or indeed buy a no date model.

See, the no date thing appeals to me on many levels. There's no wart, a better balanced dial, and if you get the non-chronometer version there's less scribbling on the dial about a supercalifragilisticexpialacosco accurate caliber.

While I certainly prefer non-date vintage watches, I have no problem with a well executed cyclops lens.
