We all know what we like, thought a discussion of what we dislike would make for interesting conversation.

For me, topping the list is subdials that cut-off part of an hour index.

That is closely followed by date windows that show multiple numbers.

Don't get me wrong, I completely appreciate these excellent pieces, but their complications or their orientation as they relate to the overall look of the watch leave me turned off.

    Discuss?

    Non-quickset dates. And non-quickset dates.

Add to that pointlessly difficult to grip crowns like the Constellations

    Agreed.

Partially agreed - yes on the p.i.t.a. to wind, but the looks is more streamlined and the crown is better protected.

My pet peeve is overly thick watches. Seen a LOT of awesome dials on supposed "dress" watches, only to be let down by a 12+ mm thick case & crystal. :(

I agree with the intrusive sub-dial placement which appears to be an erroneous afterthought on the part of the dial's designer.

I dislike a calendar feature which looks like an open sore on what may be an otherwise nicely designed dial. I don't find a day/date feature useful anyway and avoid watches having it.

Multiple number dates showing and dials that are so "busy" that I can't tell what time it is. It is, after all, a TIMEPIECE.

My biggest gripe of modern times is a nice watch that's made huge to pander to the current trend of wearing a dinner plate on a wrist. The new tudor ranger is a case in point, looks great in the photos but wears huuuuuge on the wrist.

    I agree
How about the Hublot's? They're huge. They're like a sundial for your arm.

Anything with moon dials on them. Unnecessary decoration in my opinion.

To slightly restore the reputation of IWC.............It is very difficult to fault the early generation Fliegerchronograph

Very simple pure clean design, balanced with supremely tough functionality.

( Yes...the watch is resting on an barrel of an 1941, 'fxo' Waffenamt, MP40.....I collect many different examples of 'brilliant' design )

Watches that show movements through the dial.

Watches with more than 3 hands..... I just want to know the TIME! It should be clean and simple! If you need to study the instrument to figure out the time, its useless.

    This is how its done:

Agree with the multiple numbers on a date window. Very confusing.

Not a fan of the cyclops crystals, though that might not qualify as a complication.

Not a fan of dial with a small hour subdial.

Among the other p.i.t.a. features mentioned here or the lack of them.... the two above make the top on my list.

I can live with the cyclops being on things like a Rolex Day Date, old people often have poor eye sight ;)
