You're not the buyer any more, some other dude is (assuming it has actually got a buyer and he isn't just going to re-list it as an auction or higher BIN due to perceived high interest in it)
Lots of forums restrict people looking at the for sale section until they have posted a certain number of times. I would support it. Think the same happened to me last week.
Thanks Harry.. Yes I can see that's what you and they meant. It's the fact that it wasn't even a bid but a BIN, and it's all speculation at the end of the day. If it's been sold then the buyer deserves the watch. It's not the end of the world. Just bad luck. and lack of protection, security with ebay is and ongoing issue we all face..
I can never understand this, I can perhaps see why you would not be able to advertise on for sale forums, but I would like as many people as possible to see something I have for sale
If you're the buyer you want to hush things up and snag a bargain. If you're the seller you want everyone to see it and talk about it to get the best possible price. If you stay in this hobby long enough, you'll wear both hats so it will even out in the end.
I had this happen to me on a Skychief about a year ago. Seller emailed me and said sorry I can't sell this watch that cheap, I have more in it than that. He put it up BIN for $200 more and someone bought it. I refused to participate. So now is my chance to vent about something a little. I love this forum. I love the rapport of this forum. We have lots of passionate members who spend a lot of time making the forum the best on the internet. I have 54 tabs open on my browser. I look through 300-400 items a day that have been culled out through search phases that took me months to perfect. I find something I want that I think should sorta be under the radar, and then I find that it is "advertised" for 1000's of members on the Recommended Ebay Auctions section. Basically the item has been "blessed" as a righteous item for the lazy or opportunistic lurkers without having to spend the years I have studying these or without having to put together hard drive databases of watches and serials and minutia that I have and that I thought necessary to compete for the best watches. Enough whining. Vent complete. HAGWE!!
That's a good idea, but I would take this a half-step further... I think we should post something on a sticky at the top of the forums that cautions about the financial risks the posting of live auctions in general. But I wouldn't ban the posting of such auctions, like they do in other places. Also, having these "Recommended" threads probably isn't a good idea any longer, IMO. Maybe it would be better to have these for closed auctions only as an educational tool? gatorcpa
The problem is that without the recommended thread the forum would be even more overrun with people asking us to vet auctions for them. If you are concerned that a hard found target has been outed and you are seriously going for it, you can always ask mods to use some discretion and delete it from the recommended thread.
Spiki I don't have any problem with the Recommended Ebay watch Threads necessarily. That's usually a place forum members put up watches they already have acquired and usually not "killer" watches any of us would bid on. I actually like the vetting requests on this forum. I actively participate and try to help out where I can to all members. It's something that makes this forum unique and someplace I want to participate. I was more talking about the Beta "Recommended Auctions" live eBay auctions section of the website. A lot of the best "targets" are ending up there. Not meant to be a rant, just my perspective.
