Wakmann was a retailer who had some sort of distribution arrangement with Breitling starting after the big ww2.

These (wakmann's) are a great value if you want a sweet watch and don't care about label whoring (which represents only .0000001% of watch buyers). Identical Breitling watches in same condition sell for 3 or 4 times the price.

Not Venus but Valjoux. Perhaps a Venus design?

You are right. I did some research out of curiosity and they appear to be on the cusp from Venus to Valjoux.

...maybe the watch belonged to Mr. Meylan himself and he wanted to have his name proudly stamped on the dial! Who knows...;)
    Very nice catch!

It appears I have joined the club. Having this sent to a colleague in Europe for him to bring back with him so probably won't see for a week or two. Not a big problem though as I have a couple of other incomings to keep me occupied, one being a copy of Moonwatch Only book:) . I have been lusting after one of these for quite some time and finally pulled the trigger.

From what can be seen this watch was originally sold in the US. At least the added text on the movement, and the fact that it surfaced there, indicates this.
Most other Meylan badged Lemanias I have seen have also been in the US.
Knowing that the agent for Lemania was named Meylan (NJ) and the import tax regulations that was in effect at the time, I guess the background for the Meylan badging seems pretty clear.
    :)

Another non-watch. Spent most of yesterday setting it up - my first encounter with a floating bridge.

Beautiful piece, enjoy getting to know it.

I only wish some of my technical genes could have been traded for the ability to create music, not just appreciate it.

Thanks Jim. It's set up so I can keep it in open G for that John Lee Hooker vibe ;)
