First post on the omega forums! But hopefully you experts can help me. I am looking for some details on a Speedmaster Apollo XI that i recently got. I have tried to take some good pictures but if more are needed i will try to take some more. I am looking for a year of manufacture and value if possible. Thanks in Advanced!! -Kad
I'm no expert, but the serial # would seem to put it as a 1990 ST 145.0022 Speedmaster ( based on http://www.chronomaddox.com/romans.html ). There was a 20 year Apollo XI anniversary Speedmaster in 1989, but that had an engraving on the side of the case, and a standard moon watch case back. See this thread for some good pictures: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/any-20th-anniversary-speedmaster-owners-please-post-here-139075.html I think its safe to say the watch you have is not the 20yr anniversary model. Edit: the wikipedia page for the Omega Speedmaster actually has a picture of this case back, and says its a limited edition display case back, but no further details. There is also discussion here: http://chronomaddox.com/moonwatch_cal_background.html#The_18th_Jewel: which discusses this case back a bit.. maybe a 1992 - 1994 watch.
I just received my copy of Moonwatch Only (what an incredible resource, if you don't have this and consider yourself a Speedmaster freak, you are really missing alot), and have some more info on this watch.... Based on your serial # and the info in Moonwatch Only, this is part of a numbered series of 1000 pieces, production years 1985-1988, reference ST 345.0808 (steel bracelet) or ST 145.0808 (leather strap). The number engraved on the case back bezel is a reference number for the case back (out of 1000). Movement is the Copper 863 variant. I can't comment on value, but its a nice watch - throw a strap on it and enjoy.
You have to check if the number (0001 to 0999) on caseback bezel (tiny engraved) corresponds to that found on case between the lugs at 12 o'clock. Ref 345.0808 was fitted with the rare 1447/805 steel bracelet
it will be distributed worldwide (almost), but it takes time. wherever you are, you can order it at watchprint.com
I actually ordered it from Amazon! Hopefully it will be in soon. The base back and lugs had engraving on them to match the limited edition. I am hoping to find a bracelet for it soon. I am thinking nato strap until i get a steel one.
That's my grail watch, the speedmaster professional ref. 3592.50. Hesalite crystal and sapphire back with a "gold" gilted cal. 863 movement. It sells on this forum for ~$2700 (with bracelet and box).
I just checked 3592.50. Its close but not exactly the same. I think its 345.0808 just like speedy4ever said. I got the moon watch book and will double check against it. Thanks for all the input! I learned a lot!
ST 345.0808 is the mapic code, whereas 3592.50 is the PIC code, which came out in 1988. The one of the topic is too early to have a PIC code, except the last few of the series, which were released in 88.
I googled boy the mapic code and the pic code and got very similar results. I think Speedy is spot on! Great information thanks for taking the time!
