Hey gang, well, i'm done for. the hunt has started. I'm looking for a '58-ish 2990-1 Seamaster or Ranchero. I'd prefer a Seamaster TBH, but would I'd be open to either Seamaster or Ranchero. Black dial preferred. I know these are not super plentiful, but I thought I would post in hopes that someone might be looking to thin out a collection. I'm not looking for the most awesome NOS example, but rather something in good condition and original that I could wear. I have a sense of the target price range and I'm open to talking. something like one of these would be perfect. ...and so it begins... wish me luck! cheers, J
As Darren says -- Stone the crows!!! Look at that!!! Please share the story of the hunt. How'd you bag that one?
Heh, ok, it's a good story. After stumbling across a 2990 seamaster and having a few veterans here on the site enourage me to grab it, I decided to begin hunting for one. I couldn't reach the seller for the seamaster. So, I started searching and searching. Eventually, I found a FS listing from 2013 that didn't conclude with a SOLD post. I know this doesn't mean anything in itself, but PM'd the lister and sure enough, it never sold. The listing was in AUD, but didn't explicitly say so, so the price probably seemed too high as it looked like it was listed in USD. Anyway, after some negotiation, and about two weeks of no response from the seller (at which point I figured the deal wasn't going to come to pass), a PM popped up in my inbox and the deal was done. A few weeks later, it was on my wrist. Patience and persistence friends! Keep hunting!
The AUD was actually worth more than the USD for a while in 2013. So looks like you and the watch are destined to be together.
o...jeez. Thanks a lot, here is a watch I didn't know existed until now. Now I have to have one too...this forum sucks
