    NOW SOLD

I bought this spectacular gold Seamaster De Ville on ebay several years ago but can't wear it as the permanently-attached 8+ inch bracelet is too big for me. I've never had it serviced and it's been put away in a drawer while I wondered about getting a goldsmith to remove or shorten the bracelet. That's not going to happen and it's time to move it on. The case is British and so I am confident that the movement will be a 552. I presume the papers that came with it belong, but I don't want to try opening an 18ct case so I can't absolutely guarantee that. The box is strong and externally very good indeed with just some wear to the interior velvet band that doesn't show with the watch on it.

It was difficult to photograph the London hallmarks clearly. The lion's head and letter L on the bracelet clasp put it at 1965 which tallies with the serial number, so I presume the watch was in stock for two years until sold in 1967. On the watch I can find only a crown and 18 so I presume the date mark is inside the case back. The total weight is 99g. The only estimates I could find for movement and dial weight are 18g, so on that basis the current scrap gold value is over £1700.

The watch has a beautiful cushion-effect dial with a few minute age specks, the most visible of which is just below 10. The Omega crystal, which I presume is the original one, has a small scratch at 3. The case has taken some minor bumps, the biggest on the upper right lug, and there are traces where someone has tried to lift the bezel. All this is far less obvious in real life than on the photos and the impression is of a near-mint watch. The case size is 34mm. The Milanese bracelet is strong with no damage or distortion and could be worn confidently.

The watch is running and when I tested it recently it lost about 30 seconds in 24 hours. There is no service history. Like any vintage watch this one will need servicing and being soft gold, my suggestion is an Omega specialist like STS or Simon Freese.

I am asking £1900 for watch, box and papers, to include special delivery within the UK. I would prefer to sell within the UK but will consider EU sales to established OF members. I can also meet in person in the East Midlands area. I'm happy to discuss on the phone, pm for my number if interested. I would like to be paid by bank transfer, cheque or Paypal F and F. I do not wish to sell by Paypal Goods and Services because of the obvious scam potential.

This is my first watch sale on this or any other forum so I can't provide any references other than that I've been on here a while and hopefully my post history shows me as a genuine vintage Omega enthusiast. I have however been on ebay since Feb 2000 with zero negs and will provide my user id on request.

I will only take this back if I have misdescribed or misrepresented it in some significant way, so please be sure you want it before offering to buy. Once again please note: this watch has a FIXED BRACELET. This means you can only wear it as is if your wrist is about 8 to 8.25 inches. [Edit: You could probably get away with 7.75 inches if like me you prefer slight slack on a bracelet.]
